IT’S ABOUT THE CROSS

It’s such a strange way to save the world!

One of the songs we are learning to sing in Church for Christmas is:

IT’S ABOUT THE CROSS

It’s not just about the manger
Where the baby lay
It’s not all about the angels
Who sing for him at day
It’s not all about the shepherds
Or the bright and shining star
It’s not all about the wise men
Who travelled from afar

It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
It’s about the cross

It’s not just about the good things
In this life I’ve done
Its not all about the treasures
Or the trophies that I’ve won
Its not about the righteousness
That I’ve find within

It’s all about His precious blood
That save me from my sin
chorus

The beginning of the story is wonderful and great
But it’s the ending that can save you and that’s why we celebrate
It’s about the cross
It’s about my sin
It’s about how Jesus came to be born once
So that we could be born again
It’s about God’s love
Nailed to a tree
It’s about every drop of blood that flowed from
Him when it should have been me
It’s about the stone
That was rolled away
So that you and I could have real life someday
So that you and I could have real life someday
It’s about the cross It’s about the cross

While I tend to be more of a traditionalist, this song sums up what the Christmas story and  season is all about.  It is why we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, because he was born to save us from our sins. What an amazing gift God gave us, because he loves us so much, that he was willing to die for us. And the fact that he rose from the dead and lives today! That is so much to take in, if you stop and really think about it and the full magnitude of the gift. Wow! How many parents would be willing to give up their child?

As parents we need to instill the true gift of Christmas in our children, regardless of their age.  The whole reason we give gifts at Christmas is to emulate what God has done for us.  When your kids give you a list a mile long of “I WANTs” for Christmas, perhaps it is time to set them down and read the Christmas story again!

We as writers can do our part to bring Christmas back to where it should be, by making our characters more appreciative of the opportunities and blessings they are given in their lives.  The lesson a little goes a long way applies here.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Matthew 1:21

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:11

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 4:12

And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

I John 4:14

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 3:16
