A PROMISE

How many times in your life have eV you made a promise?

This weekend I went to a wedding . The bride was beautiful, the groom was handsome. They gazed into each others eyes and promised to love each other until they die. It was a tender, emotional service. Every wedding I have been to,  has been a solemn service with vows of fidelity, and a promise of undying love. Why, then is the divorce rate in this country 45%? What went wrong? They broke their promise. Yes, there are unmitigating circumstances , but when it comes right down to it – they broke their promise.
It is important for us, to be careful, what we promise, and to whom. If we promise something to our children, and break that promise, what does that make us? Liars? In fact that is what we are! It is better to say, I’ll try, or we will see. If your children are disappointed time after time, from broken promises, will they believe anything we say again?
God made several promises to us in the Bible. Never to leave us, or forsake us, and one we are reminded of often, never to flood the whole earth at one time again. He placed a rainbow in cloudy skys as a reminder of that promise. We can count on his promises, because he never breaks any of them.

We as writers only make promises to ourselves. Do we honor them? Who are we hurting? If you promise yourself to sit down and write every day, then do it!

Genius 9:12                And God said, ‘This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud , and it shall be for a token of a covenant which I make between me and the earth. A it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud.
