A QUIET PLACE

One of my favorite songs is, “A Quiet Place.”

 

This song was written by Ralph Carmichael.

There is a quiet place far from the rapid pace

Where God can soothe my troubled mind.

Sheltered by tree and flower, there in my quiet hour with him

My cares are left behind.

Whether a garden small, or on a mountain tall

New strength and courage there I find,

Then, from that quiet place I go prepared to face a new day

With love for all mankind.

Every day, you must take time for yourself.  On an air plane, they tell you to put your oxygen mask on before you help others.  If you are empty, how can you fill up anyone else?  How can you do your best for your family, if you are not at your best?

I sit quietly on my front porch, or at my kitchen table and watch the humming birds.  They fill me with joy!  I have to be still and quiet so they will come close to me.  If I am, I am rewarded with their chirping, flying, and eating from the feeders.  Did you notice I said I was filled with joy?  To me, God knows what I need and when I need it.  He sends his marvelous creation to inspire me and make me happy.  This is a good way to begin a day.

As writers we need to be still.  Turn off all electronics, and let our minds wander.  It doesn’t have to be outside, it can be in a hot bath, or sitting quietly in your car, not moving, just thinking.  Empty yourself of your everyday busyness, so you can be filled with new goals, attitudes and ideas!
