A SLOW DEATH

We as adults are watching the death of innocents.

 

     And the sad part is some of us are a contributing factor.  How many of you know your neighbors?  In my day, everyone on my block knew me, my brothers and my sisters.  If we misbehaved, you could believe mom would get a call. Now, you would say, they were busybodies.  But then, we played without fear of some evil person coming into our neighborhood.  We had the protection of every mother on the block.

     Do your children even know how to play outside?  Can they get dirty without ruining a $60.00 pair of jeans?  Are you guilty of trying to be their friend, instead of the parent?  They have enough friends, they need your guidance and discipline.   Teach them that there are consequences for their actions.

     In this day of bullying, parents sit on the couch and laugh as so called comedians say disparaging remarks about the president, their wives and children.  When did that become okay?  How will they know right from wrong or who to respect if we blur the lines?  If it happened to your child at school, what would your reaction be?  Outrage?  Why doesn’t that apply here?  What kind of example are you setting for your children and grandchildren?

     Our actions have consequences also.  And the cost is the death of our children’s innocence. 

     As writers, we can avoid this pit fall.  We don’t have to have a character in our writings with a sassy mouth and disrespectful attitudes, unless it teaches a valuable lesson.  Let’s rise above the low class form of so called comedy, especially when it comes at someone else’s expense. 

     Can we save the age of innocence?  It is up to you and me!

Philippians 4:8  Finally, breathren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are good report;  if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,  think on these things.
