EVERYDAY CHOICES

From the moment you wake up in the morning, you make choices.

Which foot to put on the floor first, which leg to put into your pants.  What to eat for breakfast, and to use a manual or electronic toothbrush after.  How many choices do we make every day? How many are actually conscious decisions?  How many choices really make a difference in our lives?

Some decisions, like what to wear will change from day to day, and for some hour to hour.  Let’s not concern ourselves with those monumental decisions right now.  Let’s focus on the decisions that will affect us and those around us.  Like what we put into our bodies, or what we watch or let our children watch on television.  Does it put wholesome nutrients and thoughts into our bodies and minds?

The Bible often talks about sowing and reaping.  What are we planting?  Fresh air, long walks and talks?  Or, smoked filled rooms with strangers, who couldn’t care less about anything but the here and now?

My father made a decision when he was first married, to make a photo Christmas card.  This was long before it was easy or popular to do.  Every Christmas card had a scripture verse.  In 1961 the verse was: Joshua 24:15c:  “As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” My father made a conscious choice to serve the Lord and teach his children the same value.   But before that decision he chose to, “call upon the name of the Lord, and thou shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13) Conscious decisions that affected him and his family.

We, as writers, choose to sit down every day in front of a blank piece of paper.  What we put down on that paper will be a conscious decision.  What choices will you sow?
