We live day to day with the weight of the world on our shoulders. So, why would you surround yourself with people who make it worse?
Thomas Edison did not do well in school. They told his mother he was unteachable. She took him home and treated him like he was the smartest child in the world. Left in the company of the people who were negative, would he have ever reached his status of actual genius and masterful inventor?
Today, my mother turns 98 years young! Every poem I ever wrote, everything I ever sewed, every song I sang, every time I painted or designed something, she praised it. She made me want to prove I was and am worthy of her praise, by trying harder and reaching higher.
My dad use to say, “If something is worth doing, it is worth doing right!”
Because I surrounded myself with people who are a positive influence on my life, I strive to be the best I can be. I don’t indulge in pity parties. Feeling sorry for myself doesn’t make anything better. Does this mean I won’t have anything bad happen in my life? No! But I live with the positive attitude things are in God’s will, and He also works for my good!
If as a writer, you surround yourself with people who always find fault and have nothing good to say about your work, find new people to be around! These people will help you fix what is wrong, and praise what is good.
