WHAT ARE YOUR NUMBERS?

I sat all day staring at a hospital monitor.

I watched the numbers fluctuate as the pulse rate, and breathing changed. I learned when the patient was in, or out of danger, by the numbers. These numbers are the key part of knowing what is going on with the health of patient. Different times today people came in to take the vitals, which of course are more numbers. The numbers of the clock tell the staff when to administer medications, and how much to administer is measured in numbers. Numbers are an important part of people’s lives. The number of hours they sleep. When to go to work, school and even when it is time to exercise.

What numbers are important to you? The number of days you go without indulging in a bad habit? The number of zeros in your paycheck? How about the number of trophies you have won? How many cars, boats, or jewelry? How much is enough? What is the magic number?

We as parents need to teach our children the value of each and every day. Each toy is a gift, to be thankful for. Time is a valuable commodity. Today is the day of salvation, communion, and fulfillment. Don’t think for one moment you have all the time in the world. Treasure each and every day, because sooner or later everyone’s number comes up.

We as writers are regulated by the number of pages that can be submitted to different kinds of publications. Every one answers to numbers.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and loose his own soul?
