A SWEET HOMECOMING

Will the circle be unbroken?

Do you have loved ones who have gone on before you?

Life can really send you spinning in different directions. When you finally stop, which direction will you face?

My mother’s compass heading was set for home-heaven.  After her passing Sunday, we found among her papers, her plan for going home. Her ticket if you will. A short, matter of fact obituary, (which changed greatly due to the passing of time). Songs to sing, paid funeral plans and gratuities for those who would be officiating.  She made these plans in 1993, at the age of 76.  We did not have to suffer the agony of picking things out – she had done it all.  She prepared for her homecoming.

Her very first preparation was fifty- eight years ago, when she accepted Christ as her Saviour, assuring her of eternal life in heaven. She would and will be with all her loved ones who had done the same thing, completing the circle.

As parents we need to teach our children to prepare for homecomings. To read to them Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8, explaining there is a season for everything, including a time to die. Help them understand and work through the pain. Tell them about the mansions we are promised. Prepare them for a beautiful homecoming.

We as writers touch a soft spot in everyone’s heart when we write about a long awaited homecoming.  Are you ready for yours?

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
