Do you ever find yourself wondering when you lost control?

When my children were small, their problems were small and relatively easy to solve. As they got older, their problems got more complicated, and solving them became harder. What some parents fail to realize is that your children don’t really want you to solve their problems, but to listen to them.  Just listen, with no condemnation, or judgement or comments, but just listen.  They will solve the problem on their own, if you have given them the tools to do just that.

Looking at the Bible verse in Deuteronomy, I had to ask myself how I was supposed to teach my children all that time, in all those ways? In my sitting down, rising up or lying down? Then it dawned on me, by living a God fearing life every day. Psalm 1:1  Gives the answer, “walketh not in the councel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” We need to live a life they can count on.

My mom raised seven children in a one income household.  Our demands on her and her time must have been like being pecked to death.  Never ending, unrelenting, but she took the time to be our cub scout leader, brownie leader, lamplighter leader, take us to our baseball games, youth activities and any other practices that may creep up in between.  But I don’t remember her complaining, or hesitating. I also don’t remembering her taking any time for herself.  She lived a life of service, and example, even while being pecked to death by seven children.

Those children today rise up and call her blessed as we say our final goodbye to her here on earth. But because we have not forsaken her teachings will see her again in heaven.

As parents, are we teaching our children in our sitting down and rising up?  Are we giving them the tools to solve their problems by listening and through prayer? If not, what is our job as parents?

We as authors are free to write whatever we wish. But do we listen to what people need and want? Are we teaching anyone anything?

 

And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.   Deuteronomy 11:19
