ENTERTAINING ANGELS

Have you ever gone out of your way to do a kindness for someone?

Not someone you knew, but a complete stranger? Did you know you could be entertaining an angel?  Really, the Bible tells us that when we do random acts of kindnesses we are doing them to an angel or better yet Jesus himself!

Well, that is a lot to take in. It gives you a good feeling to know when you open a door for someone, or pickup something they have dropped, you are doing God’s work here on earth.  Love one another is the greatest commandment in the Bible.

Then what does it mean when you pass the poor man on the street and do not give him any notice?  Or the young mother in the store with her hands full trying to get a week’s groceries on the money enough for one day? You say,’ I would go broke if I gave to everyone who had their hand out!‘ I could believe that if you weren’t sipping on a seven dollar latte while you said it to me.

Am I against lattes? No, I am against excuses. I think we all (including myself) can do better. Give to a charity, food pantry or missionaries. At Christmas take a pledge ornament off the tree and donate what is asked.  These don’t have to be monumental task, just simple acts of kindness.

As parents we need to teach our children to be kind and giving.  When they mistreat their toys, explain how some children have no toys at all and how very blessed they are.  Then teach them to donate some things to the less fortunate, or to save money themselves to fill a Samaritan’s Purse box during the holidays.   Teach them to love one another.

We as authors have the ability to reward our characters for doing acts of kindness. Let us continue to spread the love.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:  For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:  Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.  Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?  When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?  And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

  1. What I find amazing about the passage in Matthew is that God’s people asked, “When did we do those things?” His people don’t have to make a point to do them, it comes naturally as part of their new nature and they don’t have to be recognized or appreciated for doing it.
