Oh, say can you see?

I have heard may different theories on how far you can see the light of a candle.  Some say 10 miles, some say 30 miles.  They get very technical about the circumstances of where the candle is and if the surface if flat or if you were on a mountain, etc… Harvard studies stated it was 1.77 miles.

No matter the distance, it would be a welcome sight to see a light if you were lost in the darkness.

How bright is your light? Are you a beacon to a lost and dying world? Or do you hide your light under a bushel, keeping it to yourself? You don’t want the world to intrude and demand anything of you, like caring or sympathy.

The truth of the matter is, my mother was a private and shy person. She never wanted to be in the limelight.  But she was a beacon on a hill, a light you could see from 30 miles away.  She prayed for others, and she would leave tracks at every restaurant she visited.  Shinning her light as she went through life.  The sad thing is her light went out here on earth.  So who will pick up her torch and be the next light to the lost?

As parents we need to teach our children to let their light shine.  Teach them to never be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  One of the things we do is teach them the song ‘This little light of mine.’ when they are young. Make sure you tell them what their little light is.  Make them proud to be called a Christian. Raise the next generation of beacons before it is LIGHTS OUT!

We as writers can be lights in many forums, we can shine the light of truth when no one else has the courage.  Let’s keep those candles burning.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
