How do we fight the monotony? Slow and steady wins the race. We have heard that our whole life, since the tortoise and the hare story.
The way to fight the everyday doldrums is by encouraging yourself to be the best you can be, whatever role in life that is. The best mother, wife, husband, cook, steelworker and the list goes on and on. There can be great satisfaction in doing a job well.
The buzzard is a very unattractive bird. He is clumsy on the ground, but he can smell something dead for miles. When he finds his reward he swoops down to devour what he has found. He does his best to get every bit. Oh gross! Well, what would the world be like if all that dead stinking stuff was left lying around? Can you imagine the smell and the disease? They have a job to do and they do it every day, day in and day out. Always doing their best.
As parents need to teach our children to be proud of a job well done. Not for their own glory, but because they know they did their best. Teach them to respect the work of others and to appreciate what everyone does. Remind them, whether we eat or drink or whatsoever we do, do all to the glory of God.
We as writers often make unsuspecting people our heroes. Let us continue to give dignity to the underdog.
