Does the fear of failure keep you from trying?
Are you a person who lets the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game? Even today as an adult, I find myself holding back from doing things so I won’t be embarrassed if I fail, or don’t measure up to others standards. It makes me wonder how many joys I have robbed from myself harboring this attitude. What is so bad about failure? Isn’t that better than never trying? Whatever happened to just do it and find joy in knowing you did your best?
In any race or contest, like the Olympics, there can be only one winner. Does that mean you shouldn’t try to be that one? How boring would those races be if only one ran, because there is only one winner? Running the race may not make you the winner, but it does make you stronger, healthier, and gives you a clearer mind. Those are all things to be proud of and to encourage in others.
Life is a race, and there are days when we win, and days when we lose. It doesn’t mean we should give up every time we have a bad day. Count your Blessings is not only a gospel song but a way of living. If you started counting you just might never be able to stop. Don’t disregard the little things like good air to breath and fresh water to drink. The sun on your face and the wind in your hair. We are so blessed to live in this country, and at this time when the miracle of science has given us medicines to cure most things.
So never give up, never give in and never doubt or lose hope, because you can always count on God.
As parents we need to teach our children to never give up. Keep practicing until what they are attempting is mastered. The Bible tells us, with God all things are possible. Help them keep this as their life verse so they can use it to find strength when they need it.
We as writers often take our characters to the brink of disaster or failure before we turn their life around onto the road of success. Do we draw on personal experiences? I think so.
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
II Timothy 1:5-7
