Do other people have expectations of you?
Is it sometimes hard to live up to the ideal people have of you? Do you ever get tired or lonely, and cannot express these feelings because you are afraid they will think less of you? Must you always have a stiff upper lip, so you will appear to be a strong example for others? Are the expectations you put on yourself reasonable or unattainable? How do you keep from disappointing yourself and others?
Well, I have good news! You are not alone, and you can draw strength from Jesus Christ who is our rock and strength. It was a shocking realization when I discovered I was not a supermom. I had to pass off my mantle of strength when my children became parents. I was not in charge, or looked to for sage advice. I expected myself to have all the answers for my children and my friends. So, what do I do now? I will trust God at all times to know what my place is in this life. To be versed in the Bible, so if and when someone comes to me for guidance or advice, I will be ready. I will strive to; press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. Philippians 3:14-15 In this I can just go on being the best me I can be, always trying to be a better person every day. Hoping to reach this goal with the help of the Lord. It is His Great Expectations I want to live up to.
As parents we need to teach our children to set goals that are reasonable and attainable. When they are reached, through Prayer, diligence and perseverance, set new goals. But to do all things to the glory of God and with thanksgiving in their hearts.
We as writers sometimes have great expectations of our works becoming the next best seller. We need to have goals to strive for so we will be the best we can be regardless of the outcome.
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
