IN SUMMER!

Are you ‘OLAF’?

Who is Olaf you ask, well he is a beloved snowman from the Disney movie, Frozen. Olaf wants to enjoy summer. Everyone knows what happens to snow in summer.

I think it is safe to say that OLAF lives in each and every one of us. We all have a self-destruct mechanism. For some unknown reason, just when things are going well, we throw a monkey wrench into the works.  Why? Because we are carnal human beings, and think the rules are for everyone except us. Look at the song Olaf sings in the movie and look to see if you are a little like OLAF;

Lyrics from “Frozen” “In Summer
Music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez

Bees’ll buzz, kids’ll blow dandelion fuzz
And I’ll be doing whatever snow does
In summer
A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand
Prob’ly getting gorgeously tanned
In summer

I’ll finally see a summer breeze blow away a winter storm
And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm
And I can’t wait to see what my buddies all think of me
Just imagine how much cooler I’ll be
In summer

Da da, da doo, ah, bah, bah, bah, bah, bah, boo
The hot and the cold are both so intense
Put ’em together, it just makes sense
Ratdadat, dadadadoo
Winter’s a good time to stay in and cuddle
But put me in summer and I’ll be a happy snowman

When life gets rough I like to hold onto my dreams
Of relaxing in the summer sun, just letting off steam
Oh, the sky will be blue, and you guys’ll be there too
When I finally do what frozen things do
In summer
In summer!

As you can see Olaf wants everything in life that is bad for him. He wants these things because he sees or hears others talk about them. It is the same in our own lives.  We see on television, or hear at the workplace how people have gone out and done unspeakable things and had a great time. They never tell how it felt the next morning, or how it hurt their parents or spouses.  They only tell of the glamor, craziness and laughter, and not what they paid for their actions. We want to laugh and have fun too!  I can tell you right now there is right way and a wrong way to have fun.  Chose a group of friends who you can laugh and fun with no matter the circumstance, or the place you go. Remember to honor God in all you do. Believe me, you will enjoy a bright and happy morning if you do!

As parents we need to teach our children, if everyone jumps off the bridge doesn’t mean they have to.  They think there is always tomorrow, when they will have to pay for their actions, for the night before. The reality of it is, sometimes there is no tomorrow. Guide your children by giving them a good foundation in the Word of God, to have at the ready to pull strength from when needed.

We as writers often have our characters pay a heavy toll for their actions.  Let’s continue to write reality into each and every one of our stories.

For  we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
