Keeping the torch of history burning!
Just when you think the whole country has gone mad, you find a few lights still glowing. These lights are dedicated men and women who make it their goal in life to preserve a little corner of history for the next generation. These little lights that shine into our country’s past can be found all over in unique places. Simple things like the local town fairs, which have been going on for decades is all part of keeping history and tradition alive. Two such festivals I had the privilege to attend this month are the Kouts Pork Fest and the Auki Ki River Festival. Here people of the community come together to remember and celebrate the past and present. That’s nice you may think, but it is more than nice, it is important.
As I have stated before, the worst thing you can do is rob children of their heritage, both past and present. They need to know, who are members of, their family, community, and founding fathers. Give them roots, so they can grow strong in the knowledge of who they are and from whom they came. Don’t let the radical changing times strip them of the foundation from which this country was built. The melting pot of humanity, which has made this country the great nation it is today. So when you see a local festival, or one within a day or two drive, take your children and let them and you enjoy our great history!
As parents we need to teach our children what our forefathers went through and how they lived that entitles them to their heritage and history. The sacrifices and hardships of just everyday living, which enables them to live at ease now with the modern conveniences they enjoy. Never let them forget their genealogy. Make it a family project to chart their heritage, you will all enjoy the process.
We as writers can go back in time and tell great stories about how things were way back then. We need to be careful to be accurate and informative as well as entertaining.
Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons.
Deuteronomy 4:9
You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:7
