Has the world turned you into a skeptic?
I was raised in a gentler, kinder time in life. Back when I was a kid if someone call us a name we wouldn’t pick up a rock and bash their head in, we would repeat what our parents taught us to say: Sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt me! Our parents explained, that words would only hurt us if we allowed them to. Ugly, hurtful words were always spoken out of ignorance. With that in mind, we went on and had a great day playing, because we were also taught to forgive easily.
Have you ever noticed forgiveness is a trait of a child? They have many attributes we should reintegrate into our lives. Like: trust, simple faith, forgiveness, and receptiveness, hero-worship, humbleness, genuineness, innocence, loving, joyful, playful, simple, relaxed, zealous, and always hungry to learn something new! When was the last time we could claim any of those attributes for ourselves? The fact of the matter is, we get out children straight from heaven, fresh and new. They are unmarred by bias, hatefulness, and the list goes on. We project those traits onto our children, and can damage them by doing so. We need to be playful not spectators, forgiving not judgmental, relaxed not uptight, zealous not blasé. It is because life has harden our hearts, we trust less, have less faith, and we have lost our hunger for learning and our joyfulness for life. This must be why Jesus said we must become as little children to enter the kingdom of God. We must have unwavering faith in God and his promise of eternal life, if we accept him as our Saviour.
As parents we need to teach our children to have faith in Jesus Christ. Teach them through the Word of God. Watch in amazement the joy they will show over being loved and wanted by their ABBA Father.
We as writers have to be careful not to let the skepticism of life creep into our writings. To keep the joy and fulfillment of writing entertain our readers.
At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 18:1-3
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
1 Peter 2:2-3
