What happens to a house that isn’t taken care of?
We have heard how the south has been pounded with rain and storms. But what you haven’t heard is how dry it is in other places. Because of our sandy soil, my garden takes a lot of water, and without it, it withers and shrivels and eventually dies. This happens if I neglect to water it when we get no rain. Sometimes I am so busy, there doesn’t seem to be enough time to do the poor garden justice.
The same can be said about buildings. They take constant inspection to ward off any structural damage caused by neglect. We had the opportunity to tour Ft. Chadbourne, Texas which was founded in 1852. The buildings had walls over one foot thick, yet they are now in ruins. How did this happen? Neglect, it is an enemy of many things, like this fort, my garden and our salvation. It needed attention, and that attention was not given in a timely manner, the result, decay and destruction. If I had taken just a few minutes to inspect my garden and with a little labor it would be green and luscious, instead of ugly and withered. The same can be said of our salvation. We must take the time to see the wonders and miracles of our omnipotent God, and accept everlasting life through his gift of eternal salvation.
As parents, our children’s future is our responsibility. Will we neglect the most important part? I am not talking about their future in sports or the arts, but in their eternal life. Are we being slothful in this regard? A little time spent with them in the Word from the time they are young, will make their lives beautiful and may lead them to a decision of everlasting life.
We as writers have to labor to bring forth any work worth its salt. All the talk in the world doesn’t get the job done. Remember, in all labor there is profit.
By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through.
Ecclesiastes 10:18
In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.
Proverbs 14:23
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;
God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?
Hebrews 2:3-4
