HAVE YOU EVER GIVEN YOUR PLEDGE?

Were you just repeating rhetoric?

There are many different kinds of pledges in life.  You pledge your love to you mate for a lifetime.  You pledge your allegiance to your flag and country. You pledge to pay back the money you use on your credit cards. As a Girl or Boy Scout a pledge is made to be and do the best you can and to help others.  Have you ever made a pledge to God?  Have you ever said, ’Lord if you just help me out of this problem, or sickness, (or whatever the circumstance may have been), I will go to church, or give to the poor or live a better life? How have you honored the pledges in your life? How do you feel about people who do not keep their promises to you?  You see, promise is another word for pledge.  The Bible says, it is better not to make a vow if you are not going to keep it.  But let your yea, be yea, and your nay be nay.

We have elected a President, who placed his hand on the Bible (like all politicians do when they take office) and promised to uphold the duties of his office.  Do the politicians who you elected in your area represent you? Don’t you think we need to give the President the same consideration that you have given your local politicians?  Do you even take the time to hold them to their campaign promises?

I think it is time for us to take a good look in the mirror and see what kind of promise keepers we are before we start throwing rocks at anyone else.  By the way, did you keep that promise to God you made?

As parents we need to teach our children to keep their promises or not to make the promises at all.  Teach them about our God who loved us enough to promise us, through the sacrifice of his son, eternal life.  And God cannot lie, so if they call upon him they will receive what he promised for eternity!

We as writers we have our characters promise to love forever, and in some of our work they do.  If we could pattern our lives to keep our promises in that manner!

“But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.”

I John 2:5

“If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.”

Numbers 30:2

 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

Titus 1:2
