What is laundry day like at your house?
Do you gather all the laundry at one time, or go room by room? Do you separate them into piles of colors and whites etc.? What do you use in the wash to get the best results? Everyone has their own products and ways to get their laundry clean. Some just go with whatever is on sale. They just want to get the job done!
In the days before automatic washers, people used wash boards, rocks, and a whole host of things to launder clothes. In the Bible time the ‘fuller’ was the person who would beat or stamp the clothes to get them clean.
Whatever method you use, they seldom look like they did before they were worn the first time. Continual washing doesn’t make them cleaner and cleaner, but just a little duller in color and not as fresh looking.
Our lives are like a new piece of clothing, fresh and new. But once it is worn it begins to show dirt and wear. No matter how many times we try to clean ourselves we never can be as clean as when we were born innocent. Sin has marred our lives until we need a ‘Fuller’ to make us white again. That ‘Fuller’ is Jesus Christ. “What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus”, that song speaks volumes!
As parents we need to teach our children to be responsible for their possessions. To pick up their clothes, and toys starting when they are little. To every stage of their life new lessons will be added, right up to washing their own clothes, and reading their own Bible to make sure their hearts are well taken care of. Be there for them every step of the way.
We as writers seldom use a laundry as a backdrop to our stories, yet it is the constant thing in life no matter what station that person inhabits. They all need to be clean and have clean clothes, it sort of levels the playing field wouldn’t you say?
For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.
Jeremiah 2:22
But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
Malachi 3:2
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:16-18
