In today’s world we need protection against almost everything!
When I was growing up we had roller skates that clamped to the bottom of our shoes. The wheels were steel, and you could adjust the size with a key on the bottom. There was a strap across the toe and one at the ankle, then off we would go. Often times we would limp back to the stairs to readjust the skate that was hanging around our ankle by the strap. No knee pads, elbow pads, helmets, just bumps, bruises, and occasional bloody ankle bone where we kicked ourselves with the other skate. We also played sandlot ball. We had the reject gloves worn out balls and bats with cracks in the handle where the grip was supposed to be, but we still hit home runs, and slid into home with our shorts and bare legs. We won’t even get into riding bikes with umbrellas in the rain that is a story for another day. Needless to say, we survived! So what has changed? Why do we wrap our kids up in bubble wrap and tell them to go out and play?
The world is a different place now. We could ride our bikes down the street and never see a car. Now you can not even cross the street. Parents have infiltrated the sand lot ball games and made them a war zone, with a ‘take no prisoners’ attitude. Everything has become a competition and the fun has been sucked out of it. Hence the need for protection. Protect their elbows, knees, heads wrist etc.… But how are you protecting their hearts and minds? Are you watching what comes at them at school and social media? Are you as competitive when it comes to the protection of their innocence?
As parents you need to teach your children about the whole armor of God. Arm them with truth, righteousness, peace, shield of faith, helmet of Salvation, Sword of the Spirit, (which is the Word of God) always praying! You want to be a competitive parent? Then compete with Satan for their very soul!
We as writers are very competitive, in the very fact we want to write the best book that has ever been written! Even in our work, we pit one man against another for the love of the fair maiden. Let’s always be mindful of keeping the good guys on the winning side!
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
