THE MORNING AFTER

How many times have you sat in shock the morning after a horrific event?

These events, even a national event, affect people on a personal level.  As on 9/11/01 the attack was on America and what it stood for, but was also and more severely felt by individuals who lost love ones on that day.  Horrific describes how you feel when you find out you have lost a loved one or all your worldly possessions, and you feel helpless to do anything about it.  It can be as simple as a natural death, car accident, shooting, sickness and war, tornado, hurricane, and the list goes on and on.  The feeling of that lost is indescribable, like you just can’t breathe.  But the world goes on, and you sit in shock and wonder, don’t they see my pain? How can the sun come up and the birds sing like nothing has happened?

The answers to this and many other questions can be found in the Bible. God promises to always be with us.  Good times and bad, foul weather and fair, just call on him and he is there. He also promises that the evil of 9/11 will not prevail if we are faithful to God. You know me and my love for music and songs with great messages, this one speaks volumes:

THEN CAME THE MORNING by Bill Gaither

They all walked away, with nothing to say,
They’d just lost their dearest friend.
All that He said, now He was dead,
So this was the way it would end.
The dreams they had dreamed were not what they’d seemed,
Now that He was dead and gone.
The garden, the jail, the hammer, the nail,
How could a night be so long.

Then came the morning, night turned into day;
The stone was rolled away, hope rose with the dawn.
Then came the morning, shadows vanished before the sun,
Death had lost and life had won, for morning had come.

The angel, the star, the kings from afar,
The wedding, the water, the wine.
Now it was done, they’d taken her son,
Wasted before his time.
She knew it was true, she’d watched him die too,
She’d heard them call Him just a man,
But deep in her heart, she knew from the start,
Somehow her Son would live again.

Then came the morning, night turned into day;
The stone was rolled away, hope rose with the dawn.
Then came the morning, shadows vanished before the sun,
Death had lost and life had won, for morning had come.

Then came the morning, shadows vanished before the sun,
Death had lost and life had won, for morning had come.

Morning had come.

There is your answer, then came the morning! A new day with new possibilities. Like the Bible says, if God is for us who can be against us?

He is there to comfort you through anything you have to go through. Meet him in the morning with prayer, asking for guidance for your day. You won’t be sorry!

As parents we need to teach our children about these horrific world and personal events. Do it with love and patience.  Answer their questions no matter how childish they may seem.  Use Bible references when applicable. Help them understand how God will always be by their side.

We as writers can sometimes skim over the gut wrenching feelings these times can ensue.  Let us be more sensitive to the loss and grief of others.

Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake.

Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy.

No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord

Isaiah 54:15-17

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

Romans 8:31-33
