THE NOTHING

Maybe you just don’t want to get involved.

Most of you know I had six children. While growing up, one of the treats they would receive for jobs well done would be to get to watch a movie.  One of their favorite movies was “The Never Ending Story.” Looking out the window this morning at the dense fog it reminded me of that movie. In this story, the world was being taken over by the NOTHING. The NOTHING was a void that consumed all that was good in the world.  It fed on the people’s complacency. It was that complacency that allowed things to be swallowed up while the people of that country or region, sat idly by and watched, doing nothing, being swallowed up also.

This sickness is nothing new to the fate of humanity.  Abraham Lincoln said: To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men. And another great orator of the past, Edmund Burke said: The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.  This country is in the process of being taken over by the NOTHING! While good people sit by and watch, (and do nothing) our religious rights, civil rights, and history is being swallowed up by the darkness.

The good news is, in the movie, the people wake up out of their daze and begin fighting back the NOTHING, and they win!!! It isn’t too late for this country, the Bible says: If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. With a promise like that we cannot fail.  So can we put our pride and fear behind us and heal this land in order to stop the NOTHING!!?

As parents we need to teach our children to beware of the silent evils of this world.  The things that sneak up on them, because everyone is doing it.  Or people who try to convince them that sin isn’t really sin, and nothing will happen to them if they do whatever they want. Sound familiar, like maybe in the Garden of Eden?  How is that working out for humanity?

We as writers are sometimes part of the problem.  We worry more about the bottom line, like book sales, and political correctness, instead of calling a spade a spade.  Stand up on the moral ground you were raised on!

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1:5

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

1 Corinthians 4:5
