HOW MANY GIANTS HAVE YOU KILLED?

Are you battling one right now?

One of my favorite Bible stories as a youth was David and Goliath. It is a true story of how a simple shepherd boy who trusted in God killed a giant of a man who was over 9 feet tall. All he used was his faith in God and a smooth stone he fetched out of a brook. We find again in Chronicles where Benaiah killed an Egyptian giant, and I could go on with other stories out of the Bible of men of faith overcoming giants.
While we do not encounter giants like that in our own lives, we face even bigger giants. Many of these giants are of addiction, like drugs, over eating, smoking etc.. If a small shepherd boy can face a giant and win, why can’t we overcome the giants we are facing? The answer is simple; FAITH! They believed God would give them the victory. Notice God did not just hand these men of faith the dead giants, they had to fight them. But God gave them what they needed to accomplish the task..FAITH. Many things we are facing seem unsurmountable, like grief, medical issues, estrangement, or going back to school.  All these things can become overwhelming unless we have God’s strength to help us through.
Some of us are in denial, thinking we are not facing any giants. Well, look around you, is your house clean? Bills all paid, and children well cared for. Anything we are having problems accomplishing is our own personal giant. Isn’t it about time you ask for a little help who specializes in the killing of giants? He will see you through anything if you have a little faith:
And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
As parents it is important to teach our children not to let anyone tell them what they can accomplish, if they believe that all things are possible through Christ where they get their strength. The little Bible stories you tell them now will be the building blocks of their future.
We writers have always had a desire to write, but some of us didn’t try to reach that dream because we had people in our lives who didn’t support our ability. It is only when you fight your giant can you win the victory.
And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.
And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass.
And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders.
And the staff of his spear was like a weaver’s beam; and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.
This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
I Samuel 17:4,46
And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.
1 Chronicles 11:23
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
Romans 8:31-33
