ARE YOU LISTENING?

If God spoke to you, would you hear him?

The Bible often speaks about when God talks to us.  He and Adam talked every day in the Garden of Eden. God came to Elijah in a still small voice. He spoke to Samuel when he was asleep.  He speaks when he has our attention, and won’t be mistaken for anything else.  He won’t compete with the X-Box, TV, radio, or your phone.  He comes in a still small voice.

Have you ever got up in the morning and everything is much clearer than it was the day before? That is because you can sort out your own thoughts. God speaks in the same way, he (If you are his child) will speak to you when you are listening.  When he has your attention. Do you ever listen?  The Bible tell us to: be still and know that I am God.” When was the last time you sat in complete silence and just listened?  What do you hear? Birds, crickets, leaves rustling in a breeze, the wind? Would you hear a still small voice if it came to you, or is your head always so filled with everyday junk that you can’t even hear yourself think.

The Bible also tells us to meditate both day and night: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8.  He wants us to meditate in his WORD. Block out all the hub bub of the world and be ready to listen to his still small voice.

As parents it is important for us to tuck our children in at night and leave the troubles of the world outside the bedroom door.  Give them peace, through the Word and through prayer. Help them be ready for God’s still small voice to come to them, as it did to Samuel when he was yet a child.

We as writers seldom write about Devine intervention.  Is that because we have never heard the still small voice.  He said; “my sheep know my voice,” maybe you are following the wrong Shepherd?

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John 10:27

So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

Jeremiah 33:3

He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear [them] not, because ye are not of God.

John 8:47

And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This [is] the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Isaiah 30:21

But he said, Yea rather, blessed [are] they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Luke 11:28

For the word of God [is] quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and [is] a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

John 6:63

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

I Samuel 3:10
