CAN A HEART REALLY BREAK?

I think the answer is yes!

It feels like it hurts to breathe, and you feel light-headed and heavy at the same time. You can hear people talk, but nothing is registering past your ears. All you hear is Bla bla bla, I’m sorry for your loss, or I know how you feel. REALLY? No one knows how you feel because no one else is you! You can’t even think about tomorrow or the next day, because you are just praying for the strength to get through this one. And time slows down to a freaky kind of slow motion, yet is accelerated also. Your whole world is topsy-turvy. That’s when you hear it, the unmistakable sound of your heart breaking. You know in what is left of your heart, nothing will ever be the same again.

It’s impossible for us to pick up the pieces of our broken heart by ourselves. We need help. Some go through years of therapy, some read every self-help book on the market, but the lucky ones find strength in the fellowship of the church family, of like-minded people, who hold out hope, for today, tomorrow and the future. They personally know the Prince of Peace, the Comforter, and the mender of broken hearts. It doesn’t matter what broke your heart, or how it was broken, or by whom. What really matters is that you put all the pieces back together, and pray for healing. And remember, God answers prayers.

As parents it is important that we help our children understand what evil is and what it can do in this world. They also need to know there is someone who is always there to help them through whatever this world can throw at them. Teach them the scriptures, because they can avoid some heart aches and find help to heal the others.

We as writers, we often tend to make light of a broken heart. But I have heard tell, some people’s hearts never mend the right way. It is important for us to treat this marvellous organ, that supplies us with life, a better understanding.

The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
Psalms 34:18

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7

He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
Psalms 147:3

The sacrifices of God [are] a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Psalms 51:17

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
John 14:27

My flesh and my heart faileth: [but] God [is] the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psalms 73:26

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
John 12:40

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding
Proverbs 3:5-6
The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.
Isaiah 57:1-2
