PATIENCE

It is not one of my strong suits.

Yesterday, my blog was very late being posted.  It was all so innocent in the beginning. I was sitting at my computer minding my own business typing my text, when a fly entered the mix.  I tried my best to ignore him, but he was very annoying.  He made the fatal mistake of landing on my computer screen.  Flyswatter at the ready, I let the little bugger have it! Got him! And in my haste and anger at the situation, got my computer screen also.  This can’t be happening! I had to leave in a few minutes and wouldn’t be back until afternoon.  I didn’t have time for this disaster, so I turned off the computer, then back on.  Nothing happened, still no visual! I played with the plugs, the switches, turned it off and on a few minutes, nothing! Then the horn blew, and it was time to go. OH NO! My blog is going to be late!

Anxious when I got home, I turned on my husband’s computer, and retyped my whole blog, and now it was ready to post.  Tried to log on to my dashboard, and it didn’t know me.  Solve this math problem to prove you are not a robot. What?! I don’t have time for this, I have to go pay the taxes before they close and my taxes are late.  I tried again, and again, and again.  My blood pressure by now must have been off the charts! I had to leave and go pay my taxes, I just have to wait until I return to post the blog.

Taxes paid on time, other chores done, home at last! Now, let’s get this posted. After another hour and a half, the program finally recognized me and let me in to post the blog.

All this aggravation could have been avoided if I had only remained calm while that devil sent fly bothered me.  Instead I lost my cool and acted out my anger, only hurting my efforts as a result.  This is the way the devil always works, hitting you where you are vulnerable.  Being in a hurry made me anxious, and a perfect target for Satan to attack.  “Seriously, Satan?” you ask. Yes! Anytime someone wants to promote the saving grace of Jesus Christ, makes them a target for the devil. And I walked right into his web.  The Bible tells us to: Be still, and know that I am God! I needed to stay calm, but because of my anger, I got set back on my heels. Over 6,000 times in the Bible, we are told to “wait upon the Lord.”  Don’t be anxious, in a hurry, impatient or demanding.  Wait! And be PATIENT!

As parents we need to teach our children that outburst of anger and temper tantrums will not gain them anything.  In fact just the opposite is true. A time out is in order until things are calm and a normal conversation can take place.  This will not be very effective if they see you throw tools, papers or shouting at the television.  Living by example and staying in the Word is the key to learning to; wait upon the Lord!”

We as writers know about frustrations and anger.  Writers block being just one of our self-imposed plagues.  This morning I got my monitor to come back on, by remaining calm playing with all the cords. Just as I could have done yesterday, if I had remained calm! Slow down and breathe!

Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

Romans 12:12

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Ecclesiastes 7:9

And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

Romans 5:4

Better [is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.

Ecclesiastes 7:8

 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

  But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

James 1:4
