WE HAVE TURKEYFIED OURSELVES TO DEATH

So what do we do with the left overs?

About this time of year I am sick of turkey! I stand in the kitchen staring at this poor disembodied bird and think there is still some good meat on it, and I can’t bring myself to throw it out. What to do, what to do? I take this ugly useless piece of poultry feasting and give it one last mission.  A chance to reform itself into a culinary delight.  It must give the last of its essences for the good of the transformation. It will feed what is left of the masses that had congregated in my home for the Holidays.  I will take something ugly and make a delight.

TURKEY FRAME SOUP

Place turkey carcass in a large pot over high heat, with chicken bouillon granules and enough water to cover all. After fishing out all the bones, add the carrots, celery, onion, garlic, parsley sprigs, peppercorns, bay leaves, and thyme. Bring to a boil, uncovered, then reduce heat to medium low and let simmer for 1 1/2 hours. I can even throw in some noodles if I choose, this dish will be a pleasure after a day of playing out in the cold snow.

Our lives are a lot like the turkey frames, all the best parts are scavenged and used up and we are a useless pile of bones. But if we are willing to let God take what is left, he can make something beautiful and useful out of us again.  All we have to do is submit to his will. We may think the world has done this to us and we go around blaming everyone for everything, but truth be told, we did this to ourselves or at least allowed it to be done to us.  So there is no point is being ugly to the world or seeking revenge for our so-called misfortune.  Leave it at the Saviour’s feet and accept him as your Lord and become the beautiful person you were always meant to be.

As parents we need to teach our children to take responsibility for their actions.  They will have a hard time doing this if they see us always laying the blame for our misfortunes at everyone’s feet but our own.  The buck stops here, as they say, we must take responsibility for our own actions before we can teach them to be responsible for theirs.

We as writers have a hard time making our heroines take responsibility for what befalls them, because it is much more romantic to make them the victims of the world.  But the reality is, we allow most of the things to befall us, but helping them recover without getting bitter is what makes them the heroes and heroines that they become.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Isaiah 5:20

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:17-21
