WE ALL NEED REST!

Even God rested on the seventh day

In today’s world, we are always in a hurry to do something or be somewhere. We actually wave at ourselves as we pass ourselves going here and there, unable to keep track where we have been or need to be next. The Christmas holiday break is about over for the school children, and it is time to rest! Stop and slow down and enjoy these last couple of day with your children, and grandchildren.  Spend some quality time with them in play and conversation. Life is busy, and we don’t often get down time with our loved ones, so please take advantage of these last days of their vacation. Most parents didn’t have the luxury of being off work as long as the children. This made it necessary to find child care while both parents went back to work. So if you are off today with your children, don’t spend the whole day cleaning or shopping, but use this time to enjoy your children. Time is a very precious commodity, and wish as we might, they didn’t, our children grow up right before our eyes.  Don’t miss out on the enjoyment of really getting to know how your child thinks, laughs, and loves.  Even God saw the need for rest, to revitalize and enjoy what you have.  God said even the fields of the earth needed rest.  I know you don’t think you can fit rest into your busy schedule, but trust me, your house can be cleaned another day, your children are only here for a brief moment in time, so enjoy them to the fullest! Play can be restful for the soul, mind and body.

As parents it is important for us to see that our children get enough rest to insure good health.  And we, like our children need rest so we can be at our best to take good care of them.  Turn off your phone, television and computer and rest, relax, and enjoy the bounty God has given you!

We as authors often have our heroines working two jobs and raising a passel of kids while standing on their heads.  But the reality is rest is needed to maintain good health, and energy to perform at our best.  Let us bring reality back into our writings, and nurture the idea of rest!

Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Matthew 11:28

For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.

For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Hebrews 4:8-11
