When life becomes predictable.
All you have to do is surf the Face Book and get an idea of what I would call, ‘an epidemic of people suffering from mid-life crisis.’ What other excuse can you come up with for people to tell the world when they use the bathroom and what a success it was? Why does anyone think that we need to see them update their FB profile every week? Each picture looking more and more desperate than the last, as if they are trying to capture something they missed on their first go-a-round! They are more fluffed, painted, poofed up, teased up, pushed up and puckered up! REALLY? They try to over compensate for the process of maturing, and ageing naturally and beautifully. Suddenly, when they feel a little low in the ego department, they buy leathers and a motorcycle. Proving they still ‘got it,’ what-ever they think ‘it’ is or was.
They are trying so hard to prove something to someone, they throw caution to the wind and their moral compass out with it. They face the camera with a macho or come hither look, which should be saved for their bedrooms and their spouses! Don’t they realize they should be proud of their empty nest and not trying to replace it with some misguided thrill seeking? Life can get a bit on the monotonous when there are no more kids to tote to games, practices, dances, and parties. We begin to question what our purpose in life is anymore. Well, let’s begin by assuming that you still have a loved one in your life. If not, there are dating services made so you can find someone new. FB is not a place you want to go trolling, remember your friends and relatives are watching and thinking you have lost your mind! You don’t have to lose your dignity, just because you are getting a few gray hairs, and are looking at becoming a grandparent sooner than later. Be proud of where you are in your life, and the dues you had to pay to get there.
Remember, you are the author of your own happiness, and portraying an alter-ego on FB is not what is going to fill the lull in the excitement meter of your life. Use that unbridled enthusiasm on your spouse or new relationship. Take up a new hobby, like painting, ballroom dancing, or sky diving. Redo your house, church work, or do crafts, getting ready for the next phase with dignity and decorum. With gray hair comes wisdom, be proud of each and every one of them.
As parents we need to teach our children to be genuine in each and every phase of their life. Taking good care of themselves, so when they begin to age, they will do it as naturally and beautiful as their parents did. Remember, teach by example!
We as authors can take some of the credit for making ageing a beautiful and natural thing. As writers of fashion and beauty magazines, we have brought beautiful gray-haired men and women to the foreground. In our writings also, our heroes and heroines are older and more mature. Well done!
The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
Proverbs 16:31
The glory of young men is their strength: and the beauty of old men is the gray head.
Proverbs 20:29
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Titus 2:3-5
