He and his family didn’t stand a chance.
Nearly all the snow was gone the other day, when out of the blue two inches of new wet snow fell, perfect for building a snowman. And that is exactly what my grandkids did, and it was a beauty! Their dad had to help them put it together, because this was a very heavy snow! He was a big strong snowman that welcomed visitors with open arms and a big smile. The trouble with really wet snow is that it is very vulnerable to weather changes because of its water content. It was a cute little snowman family, with the addition of mommy and baby the next day. But the weather grew a little warmer and the big strong snow daddy started to slump forward like he was bending in the middle. It wasn’t long before gravity stepped in and finished the poor old snowman off. I wonder what he would have done to guard against his imminent demise. Would he have asked for sanctuary in one of our freezers, and what of his family? No, of course not, but he could explain to his little family, that it was the life of a snowman, and they would return at the next snowfall.
As it is in real life, each and every day is a blessing. We do not know when the Lord will call us home to be with him. Should we run from the certainty of our demise, and seek out a sanctuary city, to avoid our expiration date? Sorry, that is not how it works. There are no sanctuary cities that cover that kind of outcome. Just as there was no sanctuary for Korah, Dathan, Abiram or their families when they decided to challenge the men of God. As soon a Moses quit speaking, the ground opened up and swallowed all of them and their families. They had no idea it would be their last day on earth.
How then should we approach every day? With praise and thanksgiving! Every day is a gift, and a day can hold the key to a new invention, a cure for a deadly disease, and a myriad of other possibilities! Just as you wear a seat belt in your car in case we are involved in an accident. You should be prepared to meet the death angel. The insurance for eternal life is spelled out very plainly in the Bible, and the alternative is also spelled out, eternal damnation! Are you prepared? Have you asked Jesus into your heart, to forgive your sins, and prepare you a mansion? What are you waiting for?
As parents it is our job to protect our children against impending sickness, injury and eternal damnation. If you love your children, how could you do less?
We as authors love to build drama in our writings by creating impending doom. We set the characters against insurmountable odds, and we all rejoice when they overcome them. Life is not a fairytale, and the outcome of our preparations against our own impending doom, will last for eternity, unlike a book that is out of print. Are you prepared?
Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter.
Psalms 74:17
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1
And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Daniel 2:21
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
Isaiah 55:10-11
