A HIDING PLACE

Everyone should have one.

When I was a child, we would spend copious hours down by the creek behind our house. The sound of water has a tranquil and soothing effect on people of all ages. I could go down by the creek and hide for hours, just enjoying the sounds and the solitude. Another place I would go was by the Sanitarium near our house. It had a chain-link fence around it, to keep us out or them in, whatever the case may be. Multi-flora rose bushes had grown over the fence and made a wonderful cavern of fragrant bowers. I would go there to color, write, play, and dream about what I would be when I grew up.

Everyone needs a place of peace and solitude to stop and think about their life and where they are headed.  A place that is safe, and with no distraction, of noise, children, telephones or anything else.  You need to recharge your batteries, and analyze the way you have been living and make necessary adjustments. I find so many answers in the music I surround myself with.  This song is pertinent to this subject. (I would also encourage anyone to listen to it on YouTube)

There is a Quiet Place  by John Corney

There is a quiet place

far from the rapid pace

where God can soothe my troubled mind.

Sheltered by tree and flower

there in my quiet hour with him

my cares are left behind.

Whether a garden small,

or on a mountain tall

new strength and courage there I find,

and then from that quiet place

I go prepared to face a new day

with love for all mankind

What could anyone ask for that would be better than have a place in your home, library, garden, attic, or just your mind, where you can be still, reflect, renew, and know that He is God!

As parents we need to have quiet times for our children. They should never think they need to be entertained all the time.  I do allow my Grand-kids to read quietly during this time, but the fact it is quiet and peaceful, teaches them to unwind and relax, and not go 60 mph all the time. NO electronics, or games, just quiet reflection, naps, or reading. They got to the point where they would come and ask me if it were time for what they now dub as ‘Quiet Time’.

We as authors often have times when we need to go into a decompression time.  We get writers block, and if we just go somewhere and be still for a while, things become clearer. I love my quiet times, I feel refreshed and invigorated, and have a much clearer way of seeing things. Try it if you don’t make it a practice already.

Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah

Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.

Psalm 119:114

Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Psalms 31:20

Hide me from the secret counsel of the wicked; from the insurrection of the workers of iniquity:

Psalms 64:2

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
