What will you do?
Last night my husband took me on a date night to the movies. We saw the story of how the song, ‘I Can Only Imagine,’ was written. Bart Millard told his life story of living with and abusive father, and how God transformed his father’s life and how his father’s death inspired the song. I found it to be a very moving movie, of love, forgiveness, and inspiration.
It makes you ask the question of what will you do when you meet your maker? It is the same questions posed in his song:
I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by You glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
So do you have an answer? Can you imagine what it will be like to stand before God and account for everything he has given you, and what you have done with your life? Here is a better question, what if you never stand before God? That is the alternative of being amazed by the beauty of heaven and awesomeness of God. Can you imagine being cast out of the presence of God into eternal darkness, where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched? Hell, like heaven is a real place, and it was made for those who reject Jesus Christ as our Saviour. You may think that, “my god is a god of love and would never send anyone to a place like that.”
But the reality is: For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth. You don’t get to say what God will and will not do. He has given a clear and simple way to heaven and forgiveness. A way to live and things that he finds are abominations, and those you don’t get to change either. It is hard to imagine how totally awestruck we will be when we see Christ, and I don’t know how we will respond to such wonder. But I do have a pretty good idea what it will be like when the statement will be made, ‘sorry I never knew you, depart from me, ye that work iniquity.’ First will be panic, then excuses, then the realization nothing you can say or do will change your fate of eternal separation from God and the damnation of wailing and gnashing of teeth caused by the unquenchable fire.
As parents it is up to us to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Yes we have a loving, forgiving, merciful God, but he will not stand for the rejection of His Son, Jesus Christ. We cannot save our children, but we can give them the knowledge of how to become a Christian. How could we do anything less?
We as authors cannot even hope to come close to compare the description of heaven in one of our writings. I am so anxious to see it for myself, but I am willing to wait for my number to come up in its own natural time. I wish I could write and tell you all about it, but you all will just have to wait to see it for yourself, or not. I can’t even imagine why you would let that happen!
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
Revelations 21:4
And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Revelations 21:21
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
Revelation 22: 1
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Revelations 21:8
But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.
Hebrews 11:6
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:9-13
