ONE TOUCHED LIFE

Can change the world!

Have you ever been driving along and passed someone who is broken down, and never even slowed down to ask if they need any help? Of course you have, we all have.  Did you feel convicted for not stopping, or were you in a hurry like always? What was your reason for not stopping, fear, time, or just not caring? This is something I have often been convicted.  What keeps me from stopping? What if that were my son or daughter on the side of the road, wouldn’t I want someone to stop and help them?

Do you have a favorite charity, or do you volunteer at a community center? Are you involved in any church work, or scouting program? How do you give back to others and your community? Sometimes just giving to the Salvation Army or other organizations like that can help people who have suffered floods and fires.

You know I love music and of course I have a song that illustrates this point better that I.  It is ONE TOUCHED LIFE, by Sonya Chittum:

With desire in his heart, he longed to do his part,

So he touched one life.

He shared the gospel plan, with just one man,

Yes, he touched one life,

That one young man, he touched they say,

Went on to serve Jesus the rest of his days,

And there are millions of people up in heaven that were saved,

Because of one touched life.

And little do we know, little can we see,

That every time we touch someone around us,

It matters in eternity.

So do we care enough, to reach out

And touch, one life.

She was a woman on her own, with a child at home,

And she touched one life.

She took pride and joy in her little boy,

Yes, she touched one life.

And that one little boy, whose life she touched,

Grew up to love Jesus very much,

And there are hundreds of people with a pastor,

Because of that one touched life.

Refrain

She slipped a dollar ‘neath the door, didn’t have much more,

But she touched one life.

When no one else seemed to care, she held them up in prayer,

Yes, she touched one life.

And we may never know that woman’s name,

But the young preacher that she touched, would never be the same,

And to this very day the power of God remains,

On that one touched life.

And little do we know, little can we see,

That every time we touch someone around us,

It matters in eternity.

So do we care enough, to reach out

And touch, one life.

You never know what influence you will have on the people you meet both casually and in your community.  Being a teacher, a bus driver, or a room mother for your child’s classroom, and showing kindness to the students, can be a life altering event. If we knew that every action we took, had a lifelong reaction, would we change our behavior? Would we try to be kinder, slower to anger, and maybe smile more often? We have to ask ourselves, if we were in that young man’s life, that just did the school shooting, would it have made a difference? How do we react to bullying, name calling, and other signs of unkindness? Do we rebuke those who perpetrate these social injustices, or do we just stand by, not wanting to get involved?

We can change the world, by touching just one life! Whose life have you touched lately? Was it positive or negative? How are you changing the world?

As parents, we tend to be short-tempered because we burn the candle at both ends. We take our anxieties out on our children because they are sitting targets. How we speak to them and how we treat them reflects on how they will treat others. It is the golden rule; do unto others as you would have others do unto you! It should be no surprise to you when you get a call from school, saying your child is a bully, if that is the treatment he gets at home. How are you touching their lives?

We as authors have an opportunity to touch people we never meet through our writings.  Are we touching them with unremorseful death scenes, in the name of entertainment, or do we lift them up with good will and hope? Will they want to reach out to become better people, for what they have just read? How are you touching the world?

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

I Corinthians 13:2

Let brotherly love continue.

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

 Hebrews 13:12

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

 Matthew 25:35-36, 40

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

 Galatians 5:22
