For some reason we think we get to make the rules.
Times are a changing! If you don’t believe me, look at the fashion of the last decade. What use to be beautiful gowns have now become see through dresses with strategically placed lace and glitter to hide personal body parts. Even the men are now sporting one shoulder suites baring one the chest and one shoulder. People pay over $100.00 for a pair of jeans that look like they got run over by a train, because someone called it fashion. The world of plastic surgery has nearly become a drive through industry. They are legalizing more drugs in every state under one pretense or another. Why am I mentioning these facts? Because they are doing that which is right in their own eyes.
God gave Moses the Ten Commandments, and the laws of Moses. The Ten Commandments are what are called forever laws, and the laws of Moses were set up as the laws under which the people would live by until: Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
That seed was Jesus Christ, and he abolished the laws of Moses, concerning sacrifices for remission of sin, with his own blood sacrifice. The Laws of God, which were given to Moses, called the Ten Commandments, were forever laws. But men’s hearts were wicked and they made their own rules, or did away with any and all laws that would help them discern between right and wrong. This never ended well for those people, and if you wonder how, read the story about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, or what happened to the people of Gibeah. They paid dearly for doing it their way.
God loves us and sent His own Son to be the final sacrifice for remission of sin. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
As children of God, He expects us to live moral and upright lives; thus His forever laws come into effect as a guide how to live such a life. You see, the rules were set in stone eons ago, and we don’t get to change the rules, just because people call it fashion, cool, or their rights!
As parents we need to teach our children what the old adage of, ‘if your friends jump off the bridge, does that mean you do to?’ means. Just because others are doing it, doesn’t make it right or sensible. We need to teach them that modesty is something to be proud of, and to save themselves for the person they will spend the rest of their lives with, even if others think it is old-fashioned! Keep them in the Word so their path will be straight and well-lit!
We as authors must shoulder some of the blame for the lack of any kind of moral compasses. After all it is the authors of the fashion magazines and tabloids that make this kind of behavior seem enticing. Let’s do our best to raise above the fray and stand on firm moral ground.
And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
Deuteronomy 4:44
Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Joshua 1:17-18
In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
Judges 21:25
Neither have we obeyed the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
Yea, all Israel have transgressed thy law, even by departing, that they might not obey thy voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
Daniel 9:10-11
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.
Proverbs 21:2
And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
John 1:16-17
Thankful for the perseverance He has placed in you!
