Beauty inside and out.
May is beautiful woman month, which got its name from the Greek goddess Maia, who was identified with the Roman goddess of fertility Bona Dea. May is typically the month in which many things bloom and grow. May is when the deer have their young, rabbits, foxes, birds lay eggs and hatch their young. Thus the goddess of fertility is associated with the month of May. I am not sure when this month became,” Beautiful Women Month,” but I have known about it since at least the year 2000.
Audrey Hepburn a famous actress from the 50s and 60s was asked to share her beauty tips. This is what she said: 1. For Attractive lips, speak words of kindness 2. Four lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. 3. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. 4. Four beautiful hair, let a child run his or her fingers through it once a day. 5. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. 6. People, even more than things, have to be restored, revived, reclaimed and re-deemed; never throw out anyone. 7. Remember if you ever need a helping hand, you’ll find one at the end of each of your arms. As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands: one for helping yourself, and one for helping others. 8. The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen from inside her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. 9 the beauty of a woman is not in a facial mode, but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows. 10 the beauty of a woman grows with the passing of years.
I think we all like to look our best when we go out in public or go to a special occasion. We want our hair to look nice are close to look nice and fit well, and applied just enough makeup to enhance our features. When we feel good about the way we look it builds our confidence. God likes it when we feel good about ourselves but he wants us to cultivate what’s good not only socially but emotionally mentally and spiritually. Studying God’s Word will make us grow more beautiful than any adornment we could use. If the old adage is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, we must remember that God looks in the heart. How much beauty will he see if he looks within us? Is our beauty only skin deep? How shallow are our convictions? Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. If we remember this simple command of the Bible we can’t help but grow more beautiful each and every day of our lives.
As parents it is imperative that we teach our children to grow into beautiful people both inside and out. Keeping them in the Word of God is the way of feeding the inner beauty to ensure its growth. It is important also that we teach them to look beyond the physical infirmities and disabilities of other people to truly see what lies beneath. We should continue to work on the growth of our inner beauty, always striving to glorify God in that growth.
We as authors, can take the written word and draw a picture of a frog becoming a prince. Real life is much like that metamorphosis, the changing of one thing into another, more refined and better. The old adage of beauty is only skin deep is more true when you realize that God looks into the heart for beauty. Let us all strive for perfection in this area to the glory of God.
I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psalms 139:14
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
Proverbs 31:10, 30
He hath made every [thing] beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
I Peter 3:3-4
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
I Samuel 16:7
