DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY

Which one will you choose?

Besides this being the Memorial weekend, we have also had the opportunity to go to graduation open houses. At each of these open houses we have spoken to the graduate and ask, what is their next step in life? The majority of the graduates answer the same, find a job. Some of the college graduates have been offered more than one job upon receiving their diploma. So how do you know which job to take, or what kind of employment would be best suited for your career goals? So many questions, so little time! My first piece of advice is never stop praying, asking for divine guidance for your life.

I know from personal experience that if you let Him, God will guide your life. So how do you find out exactly what He wants you to do? The Bible tells us that His Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. It’s hard to go the wrong way when the path is lighted and you’re carrying lamp. You also must not get discouraged if you run into closed doors. You may think this was the golden opportunity for you, but in fact God has something else in store. So it is important that you stay optimistic in your search for the right door of opportunity for you. Now it may just be that you have to get off the couch and do a little reconnaissance of your own. God will give you the opportunity but you have to be at the right place at the right time to find it.

Every year on New Year’s Eve I make a list of goals I would like to reach in the upcoming year. I also choose a motto for my life, which becomes my mantra for the upcoming year. One year the motto was: you are the author of your own happiness. The same can be true about the doors of opportunity concerning your future. Don’t sit around and wait for a door to appear and magically open, get out there do your due diligence, and find the opportunity you’re seeking, whether it is behind a door marked future or not.

As parents it is never too early to teach our children to be well accomplished for the glory of Jesus Christ. We need to teach them how God measures success, not by prestige or possessions, but by a person’s daily walk with him, and really listen to what He says to your heart. Because you will be known by your fruit, (spreading the message of Jesus Christ,). We often get so busy building our own success story here on earth we fail to build any success story in heaven. In their life, leading up to their graduation, and seeking opportunities for their future, they need to be made aware that everything they do, should be to the glory of God.

We as authors knock on many doors which we hope will be the opportunity of obtaining just the right publisher, just the right editor, just the right agent. We have to be proactive in finding what fits us best, because a generic fit will mean a generic career. My advice would be never stop knocking on doors, you will never know what lies on the other side.

Pray without ceasing.

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
