Why are so many people crabby?
I have gotten to the place where I do not watch the evening news. In the first place, I don’t trust them anymore, and in the second, they only report bad, or sad news! When I went to bed at night, it would leave me feeling, hopeless, depressed or angry. None of these feelings are conducive to a good night’s sleep. This is the one case where I can say ignorance is bliss, because I go to bed happy and relaxed.
In reality we all cannot go around ignorant of the important things of life. How to stay healthy, keep solvent, even buying a car takes some research to make an informed decision. So where do we draw the line? What do we need to know, and what qualifies as sensory overload?
When I was a preteen, I spent a lot of time with my Aunt Dorothy, who was a teacher and a very artistic person. She could play all kinds of instruments, and I loved to be around her. Well Aunt Dorothy smoked, and since I thought so much of her, I decided to try it. Again this was another instance where ignorance was bliss, from the one and only drag on that cigarette I knew I was going to die! My throat burned, my nose burned and my eyes teared. I couldn’t even take in any air for a few minutes because I think my lungs closed in fear I would send more of that smoke their way. I didn’t understand how she could look so chic and I looked like a drowning victim. Needless to say that ended my smoking career and I have been blissfully ignorant of that ever since.
There are some people in today’s world that think they can ignore the Commandments of God. After all if they are ignorant of the Commandments they don’t have to obey them. You can hardly punish someone for not knowing or following the 10 Commandments can you? These people are going to be in for a very rude awakening because each and every one of us will stand and be judged for all of our actions and thoughts. Ignorance is bliss is not a free pass. The Bible says for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and the wages of sin is death. The gift of God however is eternal life, rejection of that gift is eternal damnation. No excuses will be accepted on Judgment Day.
As parents it is our job to educate our children that they do not remain ignorant of the knowledge of Jesus Christ. I have to laugh at the commercials encouraging parents to get their children inoculated for a virus they may or may not come in contact with as a youth. But the same parents do not find it necessary to inoculate their children against eternal damnation with education.
We as authors are always held accountable for what we put into print. We try to research and make sure that we are informed on the subject of which we write. How much more important is it for us to be informed on what will decide where we will spend eternity? Again I reiterate, in this instance, ignorance is not bliss!
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
II Timothy 2:23
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
I Thessalonians 4:13-14
Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
Ephesians 4:18
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
Hosea 4:6
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
James 1:5
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Acts 17:30
