It is hard to get anything accomplished
Other than the intermittent rain we had a wonderful weekend. My husband got to spend a few days off the road and home with us to celebrate his birthday, making everyone happy. I wish we would just be able to sit around and relax when he comes home, but the truth of the matter is, there is always something to catch up on and fix. Knowing we had a very busy weekend ahead my husband was disappointed when he was given a last-minute load and didn’t get home until noon on Saturday. It didn’t help the mood when I had to call him with some bad news. That morning when I turned on the kitchen light, and it blew the breaker, causing the fixture on the ceiling to begin to smoke. Great! That’s just what we needed, a monkey wrench thrown in our already busy plans. Well that was just gonna have to, what do they say, pick a number and get in line.
It didn’t help that the humidity must’ve been nearly 100%, with showers on and off all day, slowing down any progress we tried to make in several areas. Meeting all our obligations for the weekend, projects, and finding the problem with the light fixture in the kitchen we collapsed in bed later than expected. I always worry when my husband has to go back out on the road when he has not had the required rest necessary to have him at his best. Sometimes I come across as nagging, trying to get him to stop talking and visiting, and go to bed to get the sleep he needs. It must be very annoying for him, but I hope he knows I have his best interest at heart.
On the road again, I used to love that song, but it has a new meaning now, more separation, loneliness, with a little worry thrown in the mix. I always hate to see him leave and it puts me in a funk. So Monday morning rolls around and I’m sure he is as exhausted as I am, kicking my worry up a little bit higher. I try to get some things accomplished from my must do list, but my energy level is just so low, not very many things got checked off. I think my grandkids felt the same way because they spent six hours cleaning their room and it look worse than when they began, only adding to my anxiety. You see the problem arises when I try to be in control of everything around me, when that’s not the way it’s meant to be. If I had only cast my cares upon the Lord, he would’ve given me strength, and peace. But being the control freak I am I figured I could do a better job, only to realize what a mistake that is. The Bible tells us: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” One would think, having learned this verse in my youth, I would apply it to my life more often, when I don’t the results are abysmal at best.
As parents we need to teach our children to trust in the Lord. When they bring a problem to us our first comment to them should be let’s pray about it. Stopping whatever you are doing at that moment, reaching for their hand, and asking the Lord for guidance in solving this problem. By doing so, you are teaching your child to trust in the Lord, and you’re also doing it by example. Open God’s Word together and search in the pages for the answers you seek to help your child solve this problem.
We as writers sit down at our typewriters, recorders, PCs and try to get work done. We know from experience if we are not in the mood to write, if our heart is not in it, we get nothing accomplished! That’s when we need to get up and get our minds on other things, refresh and renew, so we can be more productive when we try again. We need to: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Just like the Bible tells us, because we could write a lot better if we had nothing to worry about because we leave the worrying to Him.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Romans 5:1-5
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Galatians 5:17
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:6-8
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:13
