Let not the sun go down on your wrath
I’m sure many of you have heard about what happened on the television talk show, “The View”. Judge Janine Pirro was an invited guest on “The View”, to promote her new book. It was less than three minutes into the segment featuring Ms. Pirro when the shouting match started. The members of the panel on the talk show “The View”, are not shy about leaning toward the liberal way of thinking. The unfortunate thing is they do not want to hear any other point of view, which contradicts the name of their show. Now I am not about to sit here and say who was right and who was wrong in this shouting match. What I will sit here and say was it was the most undignified show of self-control that I’ve ever seen from a talk show host of any kind. I really don’t care what their political views are, but I do care about simple courtesy when you are a host, whether on TV or in your home. I think today’s society has lost so much of humanity in the way they talk and in their behavior. It is a sad day when adults cannot sit down and have a discussion about opposing views, without raising their voices, and resorting to cursing. I think losing control like that brought out very uncivilized, and unbecoming characteristics of behavior.
Whenever you let anger cloud your vision, and control your behavior, you have lost the battle. People who went around in that state of mind used to be called a berserker, and would kill anyone in their path whether guilty or innocent. Anger can be a blind rage which removes all forms a sense or sensibility. Just think of any fight or argument you’ve had or seen in your lifetime and try to remember what spurred it on, my bet would be anger. I think that’s why there is a warning in the Bible about not letting the sun go down on your wrath. It is important that you let your wrath go, so cooler heads can prevail. Martin Luther King Junior has used this quote in the past: “Hate begets hate; violence begets violence; toughness begets a greater toughness. We must meet the forces of hate with the power of love…” I think the last thing thought of during that airing of “The View” was love. My question is this, why would people who say they’re trying to save this country from its tyrannical ruler, do so much to destroy it from within? I would wonder what Mr. King would say about the hate talk, and the call for disrespect that’s going on in today’s political climate?
I don’t think there is any reason to become uncivilized over political opinions. I think we need to get in touch with a more humane society than the one we are living in now. The recent behavior of Congresswoman Maxine Waters was nothing short of reprehensible. Any time you incite violence directed at any person, you should be held accountable for whatever happens due to your tyrannical rantings. I have never been more ashamed of a public official in my life. Regardless of what her political views were, her behavior was shameful.
Anger is turning people into unrecognizable creatures. There are so many problems in the world that we could better use our energy on, than anger and hate. We definitely need to come together as One Nation Under God Indivisible, before anger tears this country asunder.
As parents it should be one of our top priorities to keep our children from seeing the ugliness that anger can expose. The Bible advises us to be; swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath. Now let that sit and soak in for a minute or two and you will recognize it as excellent advice. If you went to a psychologist you would have to pay $100 an hour to get good advice like that. It is what they would call a cooling-off period, time to collect your thoughts, process what you have heard. The Bible says Solomon was the wisest man to ever live, and the advice that he gives proves that over and over, because it was wisdom given to him by God.
We as authors have a plethora of subject matter due to today’s political atmosphere. It would take a very talented author to hold up a mirror in the way of writing to show what society has become today. I don’t think we would recognize ourselves, and would probably refuse to believe it if we did. I especially like the verse in the Bible that says: Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles. Can I hear and Amen on that one?
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
James 1:19
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
Ecclesiastics 7:9
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 16:32
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,
II Timothy 2:24
He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.
Proverbs 25:28
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
Proverbs 29:11
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
Proverbs 21:23
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
Proverbs 19:11
