KEEPING THEM SAFE

Is a full time job.

Whenever tragedy strikes it makes you cognizant of just how fragile life is. Especially if that tragedy deals with the death of a young person. You become doubly wary of letting your children out of your sight, in fear if you cannot see them, you cannot protect them. So what is the answer, because you cannot be with them every minute of every day? There must be a better way than to worry about them day in and day out when you cannot be by their side.

The Bible tells us; Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. So what is it about us that makes us control freaks, and thinking we can do it better than God? He ask us to trust him, just like he told Peter to come out of the boat and walk on the water with him. Peter didn’t run into any trouble until he took his eyes off of the Lord, then he began to sink. Jesus reached out his hand and rescued Peter and said:  O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?

We say we believe the Bible, and what God has written in it to instruct us. Why then do we falter, and lose our grip? Could it be we take our eyes, and our faith off of Jesus Christ? I am not going to sit here and pretend bad things do not happen to good people. It is things like that we do not understand, but we are assured that when we reach heaven He will tell us the ‘why’s’ for everything.

We all have physical, mental, and spiritual limitations. We are always full of good intentions, but often times we cannot deliver on the intentions given. So what is our alternative to keeping our children safe? Do we wrapped them in bubble wrap and hope for the best? With all the safety features the children of today have at their access, they still manage to cut their heads, break their collarbones, and dislocate and break their fingers. There are no ‘fail-safes’ in raising children, it is inevitable that they will be hurt one time or another, we just pray it is nothing serious.

It is a good practice for anyone who has children or grandchildren to pray for them on a daily basis. To ask God for a shield of protection around children, and for him to send angels to keep guard over them. Do you have the faith that when you pray this you will believe it to be true? Or are your prayers nothing more than empty words and false hopes? Trust in the Lord doesn’t mean once in a while, or a little bit, it says; with all line heart! I am relatively sure that your heart is where the love of your children is, in other words trust the Lord to protect your children and your grandchildren. Intercede in their behalf in prayers to God for his protection.

As parents it is unrealistic to think we can keep our children from harm, regardless of the precautions we take to do just that. But what we can do is teach them to put on the whole armor of God that they may be protected from the wiles of the devil. Remember all good things come from God,  bad things only come from Satan. He will try to get to you, through your children, that is why it is important for you to stay strong in the word of God, and your daily devotion with God.

We as authors often use tragedy to stir the hearts of the reader so they can connect with the leading character of the story. It is their choice to continue reading the story, and have empathy for the hero, or to lay the book down. If only life had choices that simple.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Psalms 91:1-2, 10-12

Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:

Isaiah 43:1b-3a,

And all thy children shall be taught of the Lord; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

Isaiah 54:13

What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Romans 8:31
