And the earth shall be no more
Has anybody taken time to watch the moon rise the past couple nights? It has been a show of beauty and of magnitude sitting on the horizon, like a big orange ball with a face. During this phase of the moon it looks as though it could be the same size as the Earth, giving us a feeling of insignificance. I am always amazed that an artist or even a camera cannot capture God’s beautiful masterpieces like the human eye can. Try as we may to duplicate it, there is always a dimension that is missing, that can only be captured by the complexity of our eyes. It’s hard to fathom when we look up in the sky and see a beautiful array of stars and galaxies, to think that some of the lights we’re seeing was emitted by a star that no longer exist. But that light is still traveling through space on its own, maintaining the same direction and a course as when it began. It is a hard notion to grasp and truly understand when you talking about light years etc… The Bible tells us that God knows the number of every single star that is in the universe, when he placed them there, and when they burn out.
In 1951 a movie came to the cinema called: THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. The premise of this movie was ending the violence that was being perpetrated here on earth. This alien from another world told about the robot police they had invented to control violence. They were no-nonsense robots, and they took care of anyone acting out in a violent matter with a laser beam, disintegrating them. Knowing the threat of disintegration loomed over their heads, no one acted out in any form of violence. This space visitor, (Klaatu) encouraged the people of earth to support the police and peace keeping militia to maintain order on the planet. Because space travel was becoming more prominent, they did not want to entertain a violent civilization moving toward them, so they threatened to destroy Earth if we didn’t mend our ways. I believe everyone remembers the quote from the movie that made the robot stand down before destroying the whole earth: “Gort, “Klaatu barada nikto.” After the robot Gort shut down his laser, he retrieved and revived Klaatu, who had been shot by our military personnel. Klaatu comes back out of the ship to give the final warning and then leaves earth to its own devices. I wonder if we should be watching the skies for their return, after seeing what’s happening on the streets of this country.
Although the movie was complete science fiction, the fact remains that the earth as we know it will be destroyed in the end times. It is prophesied in the Bible, giving a description of exactly what’s going to happen. The fact of the matter is no one knows what time of day, night, season or year it will happen. It could be 100 years from now, and it could be tomorrow. The real question is are you ready to meet the creator of the universe, and stand in the place of judgment?
As parents we do everything we can to keep our children safe and secure. From the moment they leave the hospital they are encased in a car seat with a five way seatbelt. Then when they start riding a bike and skateboard, we add helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads. Those things don’t change regardless of the age the biker, because safety is first and foremost today. We even put freshness dates on the food we consume to make sure it is safe. Are you ensuring your children’s safety in eternity, because flame retardant suits will not do the trick? That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10 Study God’s Word together and ensure you and your children’s safety in eternity.
We as authors, love toying with the idea of having our heroes and heroines live through great disasters. The reality of earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, and tsunamis are horrific happenings that cannot be described with mere words. Today’s building codes have been changed to make us safer from these natural disasters, but nothing prepares you for that type of trauma. Try as we may, nature always wins, and some of us are left to pick up the remnants of our lives. Are you ready for the afterlife?
And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:”
Revelation 10:6
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
Luke 21:25
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
II Peter 3:10
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Matthew 24 35-36
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Luke 21:36
