MY BROTHERS KEEPER

MY BROTHERS KEEPER

Are you your brother’s keeper?

What does this statement really mean? This statement came from Cain after he killed his brother Abel for jealously. God was pleased with Abel’s sacrifice but not with Cain’s. So Cain picked up a rock and killed his brother in a fit of jealous rage. The Lord asked Cain where his brother was and Cain responded by saying: “Am I my brother’s keeper?” God knew before the question was asked what had been done, but he was looking for some remorse from Cain, and found none.
The answer of this question is yes, we are our brother’s keeper, not just blood brother but all of our Christian brothers. We are told in the Bible to edify one another. We are also told to hold each other accountable. If you know one of your Christian friends who are walking on the wrong side of the line drawn between right and wrong, we are told in the Bible to take a witness and go talk to that friend. Find out what is going on with them and remind them what the right thing to do is.
We are also called to lift each other up in prayer. This is the best way we can be our brother’s keeper. The Bible warns us not to remember wrongs, and to forgive each other. Lift up one another and help each other to be strong in the faith. If someone is having a hard time with something, take them to lunch and listen to them. Let them know that you care and are praying for them.
The worst thing you can do to someone is talk behind their back. Instead; Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. It is better to say something good about that person. My mother use to say; “If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all!” I have found that is very good advise. Talking somebody down never helps them or yourself.
Yes! We are our brother’s keeper, and when you are someone’s keeper you protect them against those things that would hurt them. You should help them be the best they could be.

As parents we need to stop our children from talking bad about anyone. If we hear them saying derogatory remarks about someone, we need to remind them that those people need prayer not backbiting. A mantra we used at our house was: Friends may come and go, but enemies are forever!

We as authors sometimes use controversial slander against the good guys in our stories. This always stirs up sympathy for our underdogs and helps us bring the heroes to the foreground. Don’t we wish it would be that easy to recover from such vicious attacks in real life! Let us all be our Brother’s Keepers!

And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper?
And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.
Genesis 4:8-10
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Matthew 25:35
Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.
Romans 14:19

HE IS FAITHFUL

HE IS FAITHFUL

God can use you.

Today I went to a Mission that was founded in 1692, as a series of 24 Missions started by the Jesuit missionary Father Kino, who traveled throughout Northern Mexico and Southern part of the U.S., spreading the gospel of Christ. This Mission was constructed in 1783 and is still an active church which has services three times a week and three times on Sunday.
For a brief time in the 1860’s the church was dormant and fell prey to people on the way to the gold fields in California. Building fires to keep warm, soot covered the interior paintings on the walls and ceilings, making them unrecognizable. But the people came back to worship when another pastor came and has been active ever since. The careful cleaning and restoration of the interior of the sanctuary and the statuary revealed the dedication of artists and the sculptors. The building stands as a faithful witness to the Missionaries, parishioners, (Native Americans, Mexicans and Americans) and the people who are diligently restoring the building, now on the National Historic Register as the Mission San Xavier. But more than all that, it was their faithfulness to Jesus Christ that kept the doors open all this time.
What are you faithful in believing or doing? When we are no longer on this earth, what will the ones who come behind us say about us? Were we faithful to anyone or anything? Were we faithful in our marriage or in our beliefs? Did we dedicate ourselves to a standard of living taught to us by our parents and grandparents, or have our moral compasses lost their needles? He wants to use us to be his faithful servants, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ, for this is the greatest commandment.
This one thing I know beyond a shadow of a doubt is that God is faithful. He never changes, and He is faithful in His love for us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. AMEN!
As parents we need to teach our children what it is like to be faithful. It can be as a Sunday school teacher, a nursery worker, support of missionaries, or faithful to attend church every Sunday, but teaching by example is the best way for them to learn.
We as authors must be true to a story plot. We have to carry it through to the end, being faithful to the characters to have a successful outcome. The same is true in our own lives, being faithful and true to our belief in Jesus Christ to have a successful outcome of our lives!

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Hebrews 13:8
Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful
I Corinthians 4:2
A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.
Proverbs 28:20
He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.
Luke 16:10-12

SAVED BY THE SKIN OF HIS TEETH

SAVED BY THE SKIN OF HIS TEETH

God stepped in and made all things right.

I am sure you have heard the expression, “Saved by the skin of my teeth!” Well, believe it or not, it comes from the Bible. Satan said there was no good man on earth, and God said, “What about Job?” Satan challanged his loyality by saying if everything was taken away from Job, he would not follow God. So God told him to do what he would to Job, but Satan could not take his life. So Satan killed his ten children, He lost all his flocks, and herds, and his wife left him after she told Job to curse God and die. To add insult to injury, Job was given leprosy. Job thought it couldn’t get much worse, until his friends came by every day and told Job he must have been a very bad sinner to be punished like this. They tried to convince him he was being punished by God, instead of Satan. When all was just about lost God stepped in, because Job never turned away from God. Job makes the statement: the Lord gave and the Lord hath taketh away; Blessed be the Name of the Lord. No matter how bad things got Job never lost his faith. Job said: “ My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.”
That statement would be like the shot heard around the world. Every time someone escaped something grave they would quote that statement. Little did people know that they were quoting the Bible. The sad part about this is they didn’t know the rest of the story. God stepped in and saved Job and restored everything the Devil had taken from him. Gold, Camels, servants, sheep, and cattle. God even restored the number of children he had; ten!
You may be wondering why I have gone off in this direction? Well, I want you to think about how many times you have made that statement, and how serious was your escape from disaster? How did you get out of your delimia? Was your close call saved by what you feel more comfortable in calling Fate? Is it possible God saved you by the skin of your teeth? Did you even bother to thank Him?
As parents we need to teach our children that only good things come from God. But when bad things do happen, God will always be there to give us strength to see it through: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
We as authors often have our heroes rescue someone in dire straits. The fact that they saved someone is what made them the hero. Don’t you think that God deserves to be the Hero in our lives, for all the times He has saved us? And what about his promise to save us from eternal damnation? All we have to do is ask!
My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.
Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
Job 19:20
For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:
