Have you ever eaten rattlesnake?

I have been told it taste like chicken.  I wouldn’t know because I have never tried rattlesnake.  Some say frog legs taste like chicken. Again, I haven’t tried it, but if someone gave me a piece of rattlesnake or frog legs or chicken, I probably couldn’t tell the difference.  So the fact is I could be fooled, or deceived.

Life is full of fake and phony things.  Sometimes it is nearly impossible to tell the real from the fake.  This includes people.  They can look you right in the eye and lie to you and it may be hard to discern what the truth is.  How can we protect ourselves against things like this?  Well, for number one, never be an impulse buyer.  No matter how great the deal seems, wait.  You will either find out you could live without it, or a better deal may come along, and you dodged the bullet. Unfortunately, this country is experiencing an influx of kidnappings and abductions for the trafficking of children. How do you guard yourself against false people, who make promises on the internet, or just grab a child?

As parents it is important to teach our children their name, address and phone numbers.  Tell them about stranger danger, and the people with lost puppies that may not be nice people. Stay in touch with your teenagers, and yes, check their emails to save their lives. Teach them to always do what is right. Even if it will get them into trouble, because in the end it will keep them safe. Reassure them of your love daily so they will not be venerable to the fake chicken people.

We as writers should warn parents of the dangers that are lurking where their children are concerned. Arm them with knowledge on how to combat this kind of problem.  We can expose the fakes if we choose to be the real deal.

Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
