I WISH I HAD MORE TIME

That is one wish that will never happen!

The new year is the first event where we mark the passage of time. With the passing of the old year we make promises to improve ourselves in the coming year. These promises are labeled resolutions, as we are resolute in our determination to make a new and improved version of ourselves. Many of us promised to get more organized and to lose weight. Others make more profound resolutions, like reading more, and less time on social media, so we can spend more time with our family.

We are determined in our efforts until about the middle of March or the first week of April. That’s when we notice our exercise bike has become part of our clothes closet. But the biggest tragedy of all is how our time allotted for our family has diminished and our time spent in personal devotions with God has become nonexistent. The moments we spend in the Word teaches us how to manage our time and helps us to realize what the most important thing in life is, our family.

How many of us have caught ourselves saying, I just don’t have the time or, if I only had the time or, I just ran out of time? The truth is you have all the time in the world! You just need to prioritize what is important. Make a schedule and set explicit blocks for personal meditation, this can be used to pray for your family. Pencil in a time for exercise so you won’t find excuses for not doing them. Have a designated period during the day or evening to spend quality time with your family.

As parents we must instill in our children the need to spend personal time with God. As always, the best way to do this is to let them see us spending time in the Bible and in prayer. Teach them the importance of spending quality time with aunts, uncles, and grandparents, because time is too precious to waste, and no one has the guarantee of tomorrow.

We as writers have expounded on time management and even time-saving hacks. But how many of us try to practice what we preach? Do we use our times and talent wisely. Let’s all use our time to make the world around us a better place.

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalms 90:12

Boast not thyself of to morrow; For thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Proverbs 27:1

For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation. II Corinthians 6:2

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4
