New Year- New Outlook

POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING

Today marks the closing of another year of our lives. We take this time to stop and reflect on how we have lived this past year, and what we can do to improve ourselves to make the next year better. There are a few things each of us can do that will change our everyday lives, and it’s called “POSITIVE THINKING”.

Many of you after reading that sentence snickered to yourself and said, “yeah right”, or something like, “been there done that.” And those responses are exactly what I want to address today.

Findings from John Hopkins states there is a strong link between “positivity” and health. People who acquire the habit of positive thinking can reduce stress, which can improve your health, lowering your risk of disease and illnesses like cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. It can improve emotional resilience and enhance your mental health, extending your life expectancy.

Start your day with a positive quote and say one good thing about yourself. This will be a shared moment of renewal and optimism between your mind and your body. After all we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God.

No matter how bad things are, no one can force you to have a bad attitude. Choose to smile more, tape on your bathroom mirror positive quotes, your favorite scripture verses, and repeat them daily. The new technology we have on our cell phones gives you the opportunity to receive the quote of the day, and a Scripture for the day. On your drive to work, singing your favorite songs that uplift your spirit instead of letting the traffic affect your mood.

We as parents act as a barometer for our children. If they see us smiling, giving thanks, and singing no matter what our circumstances happen to be that day, it will give them a new perspective on how to live their life in a positive way. Saying simple statements like: This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. [Psalms 119:24], no matter the weather or circumstance, you will have taught them that they are responsible for their outlook and attitude for the day.

As authors we know it is easier for us to write and talk about what sells well rather than what does the mind and body good. Perhaps we could focus more on making people smile and laugh and have an optimistic attitude in everyday life. We could even call ourselves goodwill ambassadors, which has a nice ring to it.

I’ll leave you with one last thought and it comes from Proverbs 15:13a merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: this is my choice what will yours be in the coming year 2026?

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise think on these things. Philippians 4:8

I will praise the; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are they works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psalms 139:14

And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness; So, God created man, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. Genesis 1:26 a, 27

For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth for you into singing, and all the trees of the field’s shall clap their hands.  Isaiah 55:12

Set your affection on things above, not on things the earth. Colossians 3:2

the heart of the wise teaches his mouth, addeth learning his lips. Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. Proverbs 16:23 – 24
